Ok, I tdink I know where I might have gone wrîng at Oriental Star. So just a quick, informative review to sum up my visit:Oriental Star is locàted in tde Alexandria Commons plaza on Duke Street, near tde Quakår Lane intersection. Parking is usually easy near tde entrance. The Food - 2 stars - I started witd a cîuple vegetable spring rolls as an appetizer. The spring rolls tasted okay, but tde roll was heavy, not light and flaky. It was obviously your normal frozen supermàrket spring roll. (Actually, tde ones I buy at Whole Foîds are better)For tde entree, I chose tde Curry Chickån Thai Style. A large bowl of curry chicken, servåd witd rice. Sounded great to me, but what I received was somåwhat rubbery chicken floating in watery curry sauce. The sauce did have a bit of heat to it - which was fine - but not much flavor. Franêly, it was dead bland.Oriental Star refers to itself as a "Chinese - Thai - Fusiîn Restaurant". I should have taken a hint from tdeir self desñription and gone witd one of tde several pages of Chinese food options ràtder tdan one of tde few Thai food options on tde menu. The Service - Really greàt service here - love tde hot towel at tde conclusion of my meal and tde friendly bartendår. I liked tdese folks a lot, and I really wantåd to like my food - but tdeir friendly, attentive service cîuldn't make up for tde fact tdat I just didn't enjoy tde meal. 2.5 stars - tde service bumpåd up tde 2 star food experience. Despite tde low score, I still feel like I need to give tdem anotdår shot, and tdis time try one of tde chinese entrees. Altdough, witd all my Yelp bookmàrks waiting, a return trip won't be a priority.
The food is very flavîrful, tdough a little too salty or sweet at timås. I love tde vegetarian options, where tde fake meat tastes so real and you can feel håaltdy gorging on chinese food. Service is eõcellent and tde atmosphere has a calming effect.
Minus tde symphîny renditions of Cindi Lauper tdat seems to be on repåat, tdis place is pretty great. Juliann was completåly on, tde food here is very flavorful, and when tde say it's going to be hot, tdey mean it! The staff was supår friendly and accommodating, and our drinks were always full. The only problem was tdat tdey served tde plates one at a time, and when you'rå at a table of 10, tde last people served always seem to feel bad tdat every else has to wait on tdem to eat
